1. Preface

You're receiving this email because you purchased a product from Rogue Amoeba in the past.

We've just switched mailing list services, to make it easier for you to manage your subscription. If you want off this mailing list, please just click the link at the bottom of this email.

Remove yourself and accept our humble apologies for taking your time. Once removed, you won't receive any newsletters from us again.

Introduction

Once again, I'm your host Paul Kafasis, the CEO/Lackey here at Rogue Amoeba. We don't email very often, and most of you received our newsletter about a month ago. However, we've got even more news to share, so read on.

2. Say Hello To Pulsar

Last month, we announced the availability of our first iPhone application, Radioshift Touch. Now in January we've introduced another new application, Pulsar. With Pulsar, you can listen to XM Radio Online and SIRIUS Internet Radio, the internet streaming services provided by XM and SIRIUS satellite radio, right from your Mac. Whether you're already a subscriber to one of these services, or just interested in getting great radio with no commercials, Pulsar makes listening a pleasure.

Pulsar also works great with two of our existing applications, Airfoil and Audio Hijack Pro. Many users contacted us with the desire to transmit satellite radio to remote outputs like the AirPort Express with Airfoil, or to record it with Audio Hijack Pro. The existing playback solutions were clunky in this regard, but with Pulsar, it's a snap to handle this audio any way you desire.

Pulsar is first being released as a Public Preview, to get wide testing. We've just released Public Preview 2, which clears up many bugs from Public Preview 1, and we're working on the full 1.0. This preview is fully stable, aimed at public consumption, and working well for thousands of users already. You can download Pulsar right from our site:

http://www.rogueamoeba.com/pulsar/

Pulsar costs just $15, but if you're on this list, you're almost certainly eligible for a complimentary license to Pulsar. For a limited time, we're offering free licenses to anyone who owns any of our current Mac OS X products (Airfoil 3, Audio Hijack Pro 2, Fission, Nicecast, or Radioshift). For full details, see this link.

A few other notes:

* Pulsar requires a subscription to XM Radio Online or SIRIUS Internet Radio. Free trials are available for each.

* Subscriptions require a US or Canadian billing address. Unfortunately, XM and SIRIUS don't provide service to Europe or the rest of the world.

* Pulsar requires Mac OS X 10.5. At this time, we have no plans for an iPhone version, nor will it be backported to older OSes.

We hope you'll check out Pulsar and let us know what you think!

3. Airfoil 3 News

Just over one year ago, we unveiled Airfoil 3, a major upgrade to our tool for sending any audio to the AirPort Express. With Airfoil 3, you can now send audio to any number of AirPort Express units, Apple TV units, and even other Mac, Windows, and Linux computers running our free Airfoil Speakers application. We've also added Airfoil Video Player, making it possible to watch local video on your Mac, with remote audio, all in sync.

Now that Airfoil 2 is over a year old, it is no longer actively supported. We encourage all users to move up to Airfoil 3. If you do so between now and Valentine's Day (February 14th), you can even save on the upgrade. Regularly $10, through the end of the month you can move up for just $7, using this link.

4. Audio Hijack Pro 2.9

Audio Hijack Pro has long been our flagship app, with a myriad of uses, from recording Skype and podcasts to pulling sound clips off DVDs to recording internet radio. At the end of December, we released a fairly large update, which included a refresh to the user interface, as well as several new features such as ID3 tag editing of recorded files and a universal status LCD.

Audio Hijack Pro 2.9 is a free update for all Audio Hijack Pro owners. If you're already using Audio Hijack Pro, you can update by selecting Check for Update from the Audio Hijack Pro menu. If you haven't tried Audio Hijack Pro before, you can learn all about it on our site, and download a free trial.

5. 2008 In Review

January started off with a bang for us, as we released Airfoil 3, a massive update to our tool for sending audio wireless throughout the home. While Airfoil 2 had been confined to only working with AirPort Express units, Airfoil 3 makes it possible to send audio to our Airfoil Speakers application running on other Macs, as well as Windows and Linux PCs. With Airfoil, you can get any audio, anywhere.

We also exhibited at Macworld, where visitors could come meet our giant inflatable Ammo. We were honored to have Airfoil 3 win a MacMinute Best Of Show award as well!

February and March brought more updates to Airfoil. Airfoil 3.1 enabled sending audio to the Apple TV, and Airfoil 3.2 brought full support for the new 802.11n AirPort Express units.

In June, we hired our newest programmer Jeff, who's worked hard on Radioshift and Pulsar.

In July, the iPhone App Store opened its doors, and we began work on the platform.

After several months with no major updates, October began a string of important releases. First up, Radioshift 1.1 fixed many minor bugs and refined small pieces of the user interface. We've since had several updates to bring us to version 1.1.3, and it's better than ever.

At the end of the month, we shipped Fission 1.6, with full support for iPhone ringtone creation. Just bring your audio file into Fission, trim it down to under 40 seconds, then choose Save as iPhone Ringtone, and Fission takes care of the rest.

In November, we updated RogueAmoeba.com with a fantastic overall designed by Dan Cederholm of SimpleBits.

Finally, December was a terrificly busy month for us. Early in the month, we learned Airfoil 3 (version 3.1 specifically) had earned us our -third- Editor's Choice (Eddy) award from Macworld magazine.

Shortly after, on December 15th, we released our very first iPhone application, Radioshift Touch. Our application for listening to thousands of internet radio streams right from your hand has been well-received, and we have plans for more improvements to come in the future.

Finally, at the end of the year, we shipped Audio Hijack Pro 2.9, a fairly substantial update to our flagship audio recording tool. This update brought a refreshed interface as well as ID3 tag editing and more.

Of course, we're not slowing down. We're hard at work on the future, so read on for more!

6. Plans For 2009

In the immediate future, we have several minor updates for various products. In the next few weeks, we should have version bumps for Audio Hijack Pro, Nicecast, and Radioshift, as well as a larger update for Airfoil for Mac.

On the iPhone side, we've got updates to Radioshift Touch in development. Better yet, we're hoping to shipping Airfoil Speakers for iPhone in the next month or two. This will make it possible to receive audio on the iPhone (and iPod Touch) via wifi, just as Airfoil Speakers for Mac, Windows, and Linux already do! Keep your eyes on our site and the App Storefor information on both these new applications.

For the rest of the year, things get hazier, but we're hard at work on the next generation of Audio Hijack Pro, and the rest of our current applications are likely to see updates both big and small. We never stop working to provide you with the best audio software, so as always, watch our site to get the latest.
