The New RogueAmoeba.com
Today, we’ve unveiled a major overhaul to our website. If you’re reading this in your RSS reader, pop over to http://www.rogueamoeba.com and check it out. If you’re on our site, then you’re seeing it right now - hooray!
This is approximately the fourth iteration of the Rogue Amoeba web site, from our opening day site back in 2002, to our first multiple-products design, to the site we’ve had for several years now. That design was functional, but we really wanted to give it a visual overhaul, and fix some smaller design aspects of it as well.
To that end, we worked with Dan Cederholm of SimpleBits. He and I chatted multiple times about what functionality was most important to us, namely providing useful information on our products, and then getting you to our downloads and our store as easily as possible. We also discussed where we wanted to have major improvements and where we needed new ideas. Dan took all that, digested it, and came back to us with something great. After that, he worked with us to refine it as we put it together, and fill in missing pieces with needed additional work.
Dan’s done great work, and we couldn’t be more pleased. He was quick and responsive, and he produced what we needed, never backing off from a challenge. If you need top-quality web design work, check out SimpleBits.
We hope you like the new site. There are bound to be some issues with this update, such as bad links or missing images, so if you spot something, please let us know with a comment on this post!

In Safari (WebKit nightly), when on the Weblog tab the page appears to shift up about 2px. Also, the Weblog tab redirects to http://www.rogueamoeba.com, while the rest go to rogueamoeba.com.
I like the perforated aluminum background.

Oh, and your subtitles use different casing, I don’t know if that’s intentional or desired.

There no longer seems to be a single page where I can go to see what the latest version of all of your products are. :(

Looks fantastic! Well done Dan.

Zack C.: Thanks for the help! The case is unintentional, I’ll have to find any others like that.
As for the header and web address, we’ll take a look.
MacMike: Mm, that’s currently true. The front page used to provide this. We’ll have to consider putting it back there. Right now, we’re looking for clean, clutter-free.
For what it’s worth, every app has version checking. Keep that on, and you’ll always be up to date!

Looks like your new website may have some problems.
When I try to download Airfoil for Windows it tells me ” This is only available for MAC OSX” …!? Am I missing something or is the pointer on the page wrong?

Phil: Good catch there. The Airfoil Windows download page regressed, that warning is normally disabled for it. It’s all fixed now though.

The microscope on this page extends left past the edge of the text column by what seems like an arbitrary 8px. That might be a design choice, but I thought I’d mention it in case.

“Steven reads XKCD, and thinks you should do.”
did you mean “too”?

The UTM header microscope image was extending an arbitrary -10px- to the left. Margin was set to 10, while the text postings margin is 20. Fixed now. Although I’m wondering if maybe it should really be centered…

Nice re-design guys! Dan (as usual) did a great job coming up with a good way to showcase your wonderful products.

Great Site Guys! (and Dan!)
I noticed on the Store page, the description for Airfoil for Windows is the Description for Airfoil for Mac.

Dave: Indeed, as noted, we’re very happy with Dan’s work!
Evan: Thanks, fixed!

Your website for your products is one of the best I’ve seen. It is indeed simple and clutter free. I hate web sites that waste my time forcing me to sift through multiple links to get product information. The website seems to reinforce the product message. It’s simple… beautiful…. and just works.

Wow, you guys did a fantastic job redesigning the site and focusing the copy. I especially like the test drive links on the product purchase pages. Nice touch!
