Introduction

Alright then - I'm your host Paul Kafasis, CEO/Lackey here at Rogue Amoeba. We've got news on a major new release, Macworld, and more, so let's get started!

2. Airfoil 3 Now Available!

We first started work on the newest version of our AirPort Express extender Airfoil at the end of 2006, and yesterday, we finally unveiled Airfoil 3. Airfoil has always allowed you to send any audio to your AirPort Express, but this update brings with it some major feature updates.

Airfoil 3 lets you transmit any audio to multiple AirPort Express units, providing perfect synchronization between units. You can now play audio through your computer's local speakers too, in sync with remote playback. That's not all, either. With the complimentary Airfoil Speakers application, you can turn other local Macs into virtual AirPort Express units! Run Airfoil Speakers on any local mac, and it will appear in Airfoil as a standard output. With one click, you can transmit your audio to that machine and other Macs, all in sync and with no AirPort Express required. You can of course sync this with local playback and playback to AirPort Express units as well. It's your audio, everywhere!

Airfoil 3 also offers a second huge feature, one we've had literally hundreds of requests for - synchronized video playback! If you've ever wanted to watch video while using Airfoil, you know that the AirPort Express buffers audio playback by several seconds, resulting in video that's out of sync with the audio. With the included Airfoil Video Player, however, this is no matter. Airfoil Video Player handles playing video locally in sync with remote audio, for the perfect viewing experience. Airfoil Video Player supports all of the most popular video formats, and even features preliminary DVD support.

Airfoil 3 also has many smaller updates, including full Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) support, interface improvements, and simplified preferences. It's immediately available for download and purchase and runs on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. New users can purchase Airfoil through our online store for just $25, while owners of Airfoil 2 can upgrade for just $10. If you purchased July 16th, 2007 or later (your license key will start with TX40), this upgrade is free - just download and enjoy!

Key New Features In Airfoil 3:
* Perfect synchronization between multiple AirPort Express units, local playback, and other local Macs
* Turn any Mac into a virtual AirPort Express - send any audio from Airfoil to other local Macs, with Airfoil Speakers
* Play video locally with remote audio, using Airfoil Video Player, all in sync
* Full support for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
* Interface improvements and many other minor improvements

4. 2007 In Review

It seems every year is a big one at Rogue Amoeba, and 2007 was no exception.

We took the year off from exhibiting at Macworld, but we posted a series of articles about exhibiting on our weblog, popular with other developers and attendees alike . Speaking of Developers, the Developers team trumped the Press team in the MacBrainiac challenge at Macworld.

In March, we received our AppleTVs, and spent a great deal of time poking around with them, discovering some surprising new facts. Thus far, however, the AppleTV has not proven to be a viable platform for new software.

Fission 1.5 arrived in April, bringing several major new features in a free update. These features included copy and paste between audio files and within one file, as well as Gain adjustment and more. Our mascot Ammo was also featured in a cartoon on PC Weenies, which is how we really know we've made it.

In June, two of Rogue Amoeba's three co-founders were honored to be named to the MacTech 25, namely myself and Alex. Quentin, our third co-founder, continued to speak softly and carry a big stick. The rest of the month was iPhone, iPhone, iPhone! From discussions of iPhone software (web apps only, at the time) to finally being able to buy the device, it seemed the world could focus on little else.

We spent July toying with the iPhone, but we also managed to release Airfoil for Windows version 2, a major update to the Windows counterpart to Airfoil for Mac.

Ringtones were the focus of September, as users worked to get custom ringtones on the iPhone. Using Fission, it's easy to create ringtones, and so we came up with a MakeiPhoneRingtone freebie to help get these ringtones onto the iPhone itself. MakeiPhoneRingtone was broken repeatedly by Apple, but it's now been working flawlessly for weeks, and we hope this feature is here to stay.

At the end of September, however, brought the biggest news of all. Radioshift, our newest application, was finally released after years in development. If you haven't seen it yet, Radioshift aims to make it as easy as possible to record any and all internet radio.

October brought Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and a slew of updates for compatibility. All our applications have at least preliminary Leopard support currently, and we hope to have full support in the coming weeks. Watch our Status page for full details.

Finally, in December, we ran the MacSanta promotion for the second year in a row, This promotion provides all Mac users with great deals on hundreds of Mac software products, and it's likely we'll continue to run it in 2008 and beyond. Be sure to bookmark the site and keep your eyes open next holiday season!

As always, we're hard at work on the future. Read on for more!

5. Plans For 2008

In the immediate future, we'll be at Macworld San Francisco next week. You can come find us in booth #2738, in the South Hall.

In the weeks after Macworld, we'll have updates for Audio Hijack Pro and Nicecast, with full support for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), including Instant Hijack. Keep your eyes on our Status page for full details:

As well, the iPhone SDK is coming in February. We have no specific plans for it, but it's may prove to be an exciting opportunity, so we'll see what happens there.

Beyond that, we're focused on updating our universal audio recorder Audio Hijack Pro, and we'll be starting working on version 2 of our streamlined audio editor Fission, hopefully to be released by the end of the year. Finally, our brand-new internet radio recorder Radioshift is just getting started, so keep your eye on for multiple small updates there as well.
