1. Preface & Introduction

Most likely, you're receiving this email because you purchased a product from Rogue Amoeba in the past. As always, if you want off this list, please visit here.

Just remove yourself and accept our humble apologies for taking your time. Once removed, you won't receive a newsletter ever again.

Introduction

Now that that's out of the way, howdy! Paul here again, Rogue Amoeba CEO/Lackey. It's been almost 9 months since I last talked to you guys, and a lot has changed for us in that time. I thought I'd bring you up to date with what we've done, and what we're doing. Ready? Let's go!

2. Audio Hijack Pro 2.7

Our most recent release (put out just this past Monday) is version 2.7 of Audio Hijack Pro, our tool for recording any audio, from applications to microphones. This update was designed to make it much, much simpler to record audio chat from applications such as Skype, iChat, and Gizmo Project. If you're using an older version, grab the very latest right now. See this link for more information on version 2.7.

For basic information on Audio Hijack Pro, as well as to download it, just visit the Audio Hijack Pro website.

If you're using Audio Hijack, or still using Audio Hijack Pro version 1, you can move to Audio Hijack Pro 2 at a discount. If you've never used Audio Hijack Pro, try it out right now, and save $3. Read on for discounts and coupons on Audio Hijack Pro.

3. Airfoil Version 2

As you may know, Airfoil is our tool to enable you to send any audio (not just iTunes) to Apple's AirPort Express. Back in January, we released Airfoil 2 into the wild, and it's been a great success. Airfoil 2 brought with it a major redesign, audio effects, RadioShark support, and more.

The biggest new feature, however, is the ability to send to multiple units simultaneously. Now with Airfoil 2, you can send audio from any application all around your house, to one or many AirPort Express units - we think it's very cool.

If you've got an AirPort Express, check out Airfoil 2 (now at version 2.0.3) to get the most out of it.

4. Airfoil For Windows

If the URL in the above section looks a little strange, it's because in May, we released a new version of Airfoil. Specifically, this was a version of Airfoil for Windows! Yes, Airfoil is now available for users on both Mac OS X and Windows. If you missed it, you can read about it here.

Never fear though, we're still fully committed to the Macintosh platform! Airfoil was a product that was needed by users on Windows, and as no one else was going to make it, we provided it. However, we have no plans for other Windows software. The Mac is what we use, and the Mac is what we love, dear readers.

If you have a Windows machine though, or you know someone who does, please have a look at Airfoil for Windows right here.

5. Coupons!

Audio Hijack Pro Savings

Audio Hijack Pro 2 was released just over 2 years ago, and we've just released Audio Hijack Pro 2.7, as noted above. As well, a full year ago Audio Hijack Pro 1 reached end-of-life. However, we've still got plenty of people who haven't upgraded to version 2 and we want everyone to join us as we continue improving Audio Hijack Pro. Until the end of August, you can upgrade from Audio Hijack Pro version 1 to version 2 for just $7.

If you're still using Audio Hijack Pro 1, we urge you to head over to the upgrade page before the end of August.

If you haven't used Audio Hijack Pro, or if you're using Audio Hijack and interested to move up, you can get $3 off the full price of a new purchase with coupon code SUMMERSALE or get an additional $3 discount when moving up from Audio Hijack to Audio Hijack Pro.

To summarize, until the end of August, everyone gets $3 off of Audio Hijack Pro.

Volume Logic Savings

We've also worked out a deal for all of our customers on a product we're proud to have helped create. Several years back, we worked to enable the very first audio plugin for iTunes. That audio plugin is Volume Logic, from Plantronics, and it's currently in beta testing for the Intel platform.

If you don't know Volume Logic, it works to normalize and improve the quality of audio in iTunes, raising the volume of softer music while keeping loud music under control. If you use Volume Logic, you won't constantly need to adjust the output volume on your Mac, and laptop speakers will sound much better.

Whether you're on an ICBM (that's Intel Chip Based Mac) or a PowerPC- based machine, you can save $5 on the purchase of Volume Logic, with coupon code CPN3068976746. That coupon's good through the end of the year, but why wait? Download Volume Logic, and if you like it, purchase now.

6. Fission First Look

I handle most of the text for these newsletters, but I thought I'd let Mike Ash have your ear (and eyeballs) for a bit. He's the lead developer on our next product, Fission. Here's what he had to say:

Fission, Rogue Amoeba's next product will be released to the world in the coming weeks. Fission is an audio editor that's designed as a perfect companion to Audio Hijack Pro, as well as being an easy way to accomplish many common editing tasks.

In a nutshell, Fission makes it easy to break a recording into pieces and cut out ads. You can place split points to break the file into pieces, and turn one recording into multiple files. This is great for breaking streamed shows down into segments or for recording records and tapes. You can also choose sections to cut out, remove commercials or uninteresting bits from your recordings. When you're all set, you can edit the ID3 tags of the file and save it out, for use on an iPod, in iTunes, or anywhere else.

Fission is completely lossless when editing the major filetypes - AIFF, ALAC, MP3, and AAC can all be cut, split, and faded with zero quality loss. Pretty cool, no? Fission can also import and export audio using QuickTime. You can read in WMV using Flip4Mac, edit the audio, and then export it as Ogg Vorbis using the Xiph QuickTime components. I'm not sure why you'd want to, but there it is.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which means this screenshot of Fission in action is worth about five times more than the text of this first look.

So, that's Fission in brief. Look for it in on our site soon!

7. Looking Ahead

We're always working on updates to our existing software and right now, we've got several new applications at various stages of development. As part of these updates, we're trying to gather data on usage of Audio Hijack Pro. Please help us in this effort - just see this link.

Finally, if you live on the West Coast, you won't won't to miss this year's Podcast and Portable Media expo.

The show is September 29th and 30th, in Ontario, California. We'll be there showing off Audio Hijack Pro and Fission, so come on by! We'll have more information (and as always, all sorts of fun posts) for the show as we get it, right on our blog.

We hope to see you there!

That's all for now! Thank you as always for reading, as well as for your support. Thanks to you guys and gals, we're able to continue producing fantastic audio software for Mac OS X (and now, Windows).

As always, stay tuned!
-Paul
