Applications that play audio to different audio output devices could have that playback silenced, due to a bug in Tahoe involving mismatched sample rates. When this occurs, audio you expect to be heard on the secondary output device will be replaced with silence.
It’s possible to avoid this issue by making sure all audio devices in use are set to a common sample rate. You can verify and change the sample rates for your audio devices using Apple’s Audio MIDI Setup utility.
When the sample rates for all relevant devices match, all audio will be captured and heard as expected.
When two different audio devices are used for input and output, a bug in Tahoe leads to failures in capturing audio from FaceTime or the new Phone app. When this failure occurs, only silence will be captured by Loopback, and the audio you expect to hear will be missing.
This bug will not be triggered if the same audio device is selected for both Microphone and Output in the Video menu of FaceTime or Phone. When this is done, audio can be captured as expected.
We are in contact with Apple about these bugs, as the necessary fixes must be made in updates to MacOS itself. When updates to Tahoe are shipped to the public and we can verify the issues are resolved, we’ll update this article along with our always helpful Status page. We’ll also post to our blog.
