Purchase information on taxes, tax forms, and currency

Rogue Amoeba's products may be purchased through our store from anywhere with internet access. Information on this page may be helpful for purchasers.

Local taxes

Our payment processor (Paddle) handles the actual sale of our software, and they are required to collect taxes in many regions around the world. These taxes vary based on your location, and a full list of where tax is charged can be found on Paddle’s website.

The exact amount you will be charged, including tax, is always shown before you finalize your purchase.

Tax-exempt purchasing

Some buyers may be exempt from paying tax. Read on for instructions on tax-exempt purchasing.

European Union

For tax-exempt purchases in the EU, just enter your VAT number to have tax removed from the charges. Look for Add VAT Number during the checkout process, on the payment method selection screen.

If you missed your opportunity to enter your VAT number during checkout, you can enter it as part of your business information after the fact. Please visit our Customer Dashboard, and follow the link to view your web receipt to add the necessary details.

Once you’ve added your VAT number, the tax will be removed from that prior purchase automatically, and you’ll get an updated invoice to reflect the change.

United States

Tax-exempt buyers in the US should contact us directly with your tax exempt details, so we can facilitate a tax-free purchase. You may contact us either before or after your purchase, and we’ll get you sorted.

If you use a tax form that requires details about the seller, note that our payment processor Paddle is the “Merchant of Record”. Paddle's information can be found on your receipt. It is also replicated below:

W-9 Form

Institutional purchasers in the United States may occasionally need a W-9 form as part of their tax records. Since Paddle acts as our “Merchant of Record”, their form will be needed:
