We believe strongly in the right to privacy. We do all we can to protect the privacy of our users. Our business earns money by selling software, and never by monetizing your private data. Our privacy policy can be easily summarized in one line:
We don't sell or rent any of your data to third parties, ever, period.
In addition, we collect and keep as little data from you as we reasonably can. Collecting the bare minimum of data for our needs means there's little incentive for a malicious actor to attempt access to our databases, as well as minimal consequences were such a breach to occur.
Below, you can find more details on the data we do collect, as well as third-party services we use.
To provide you with the newest features and fixes, our software checks with our servers to determine if a newer version is available. To perform these checks, the software sends its name and current version, as well as your current OS version. No personally identifiable data is sent.
The application's “Settings” window provides the option to disable periodic version checking. We strongly recommend leaving this setting enabled, and always running the latest version of our software, but the choice is yours.
Also worth mentioning, the software will never overwrite itself with a version requiring additional payment. New versions requiring a paid upgrade must be downloaded manually.
When periodic version checking is enabled in our applications, generalized data related to usage is also sent to our servers. This information is used in aggregate to help us understand how customers use our software, and all data analysis is done with the express and exclusive intent of guiding future development of the software. Disabling the “Automatically check for updates” option will prevent this information from being collected.
Our applications also periodically check for critical news about the software, which will then be displayed within the app. Like version checking, this check requires some basic data: The name and version of the software, as well as your operating system. Disabling the “Automatically check for updates” option will prevent this developer news check.
When a license key is entered to unlock one of our applications, a copy will be sent to our server for automated validation.
After the software has been launched five times, it will display a one-time prompt to sign up for our email newsletter. If you enter your email and opt to join, you'll be added to a one-way mailing list. You can also join our list through our site, or when making a purchase.
This list receives major news on our products, sneak peeks at forthcoming releases, and special discounts and deals. We generally send about three emails per year.
Every email we send offers a clear and functional unsubscribe link, so you can instantly remove yourself from our list.
Our email list is kept strictly private, and we do not sell, rent, or share access to it with anyone, at any time. By necessity, our lists are provided to our mailing list service provider (see below), but the addresses on the lists are never used by any other company.
In the course of running our business, we work with a few trusted third parties who provide specific services. We vet these companies before working with them, to ensure that they take your privacy as seriously as we do.
