About Loopback's Debugging window

The Debugging Window

Loopback includes a dedicated Debugging window, which provides access to logging controls, unsupported Hidden Settings and a Factory Reset button for restoring the application’s original settings.

To access Loopback’s Debugging window, hold down the Option key on your keyboard when the Help menu is open. The Contact Rogue Amoeba… command will change to Quit and Relaunch for Debugging.

Select that command and Loopback will quit and relaunch directly to its Debugging window.

Logging & Debugging

In the course of troubleshooting, Rogue Amoeba’s support team may request debugging logs. These can be enabled from the Logging & Debugging section. For more details, see this article on collecting logs.

Loopback’s Hidden Settings

The Debugging window contains a section dedicated to special hidden settings, which provide some secondary functions that are not intended for everyday use. These settings are intentionally not included in the app’s main interface, as they are useful only in rare or edge cases.

Loopback’s Hidden Settings include:

Check for test releases

Receive prompts to access testing versions of Loopback to try the latest enhancements and bug fixes early.

Disable hardware volume control

Allows Loopback to disable the volume controls for select devices. This is useful for audio devices which erroneously report the existence of non-existent volume controls.

Reduce animations

Deactivates all audio meters, to help conserve CPU resources.

Restore icons in menus

When enabled, icons Apple automatically places in Loopback’s menu bar menus will be restored. This setting is only available on MacOS 26 (Tahoe) and higher. For more details, see this blog post.

Short trial mode

When active, Loopback’s trial restrictions will take effect after just 30 seconds. This is intended for internal testing of the trial limitations and can be ignored.

Starting Fresh

Clicking the Factory Reset button in the Start Fresh section of the Debugging window will restore Loopback’s default settings, making the app behave as if it is being launched for the first time. Use this function with caution, as it will revert all custom settings.
