Information for:
Audio channel handling in SoundSource

Generally speaking, Rogue Amoeba’s applications use stereo audio pipelines, rather than multi-channel audio formats such as 5.1 surround sound or Dolby Atmos.

SoundSource will apply volume adjustments and effects to audio being played to the default stereo channels of the Mac’s default audio output device. Audio sent by an application to upper output channels is not captured or adjusted by SoundSource.

To play audio to alternate channels of a multi-channel output device, use SoundSource’s Audio Devices window which you can access by clicking its button.

The Audio Devices window lists all audio devices connected to your Mac:

Select your output device in the list on the left, then adjust the Left and Right Channel pop-up menus in the Output tab to select the desired channels.
