Work For Rogue Amoeba!

Rogue Amoeba is once again looking to expand. At this time, we’re hiring both a new programmer and, in a new role for us, a full-time designer.

We’re looking to expand our team of programmers with an additional Cocoa/Mac OS X expert (iPhoneOS experience is welcome as well). Although we make almost exclusively audio software, audio coding expertise is not something we’re in need of right now. Audio applications, like any consumer-facing software, require an enormous level of interface coding as well, and that’s the role we’re looking to fill.

The full-time design position is a new direction for us, as it will represent our first non-programming hire (other than support work). Over the years we’ve done much of our design in-house, and contracted out for various artwork components. This has worked well enough, with serviceable results that over time have gotten better.

However, no one at Rogue Amoeba is a true artist, and that’s what we’d like to see. We want to take our technical know-how and make it ever more accessible, with polished interfaces that bring that power into the hands of all level of users. So if you can design a spectacular GUI, talk to us. If you think you can help us make the next Apple Design Award winner, we want to hear from you. Get in touch.

Airfoil 3.2.5 Is Here

Airfoil for Mac IconJust in time for the weekend, Airfoil version 3.2.5 is now available for immediate download. This new release provides improved compatibility between 64-bit processes and the Instant Hijack component, an optional extra that makes it possible to grab audio from running applications.

In addition, several other pieces of Airfoil have received updates. The built-in Airfoil Video Player now includes the latest version of the Perian playback engine (1.1.3) and features minor improvements to DVD playback. Airfoil Speakers for Mac has also been updated with several small interface improvements, and the Soundflower extra used for capturing System Audio has been updated as well.

Along with those updates, Airfoil itself has had many small bugs fixed and improvements have been made under the hood. It now also works better to pull audio from several troublesome applications, including Songbird.

This is a free update for all licensed owners of Airfoil for Mac 3, so all existing users should simply choose Check For Update from the Airfoil menu, or click to download from our site. If you haven’t used Airfoil before, check it out now with a free trial.

Late Night Cocoa: NSOperationQueue Problems

I’ve done another appearance on Late Night Cocoa, this time discussing NSOperationQueue problems. We also discuss RAOperationQueue, our open-source substitute for NSOperationQueue. Check it out over at The Mac Developer Network.
