Rogue Amoeba CEO/Lackey Paul Kafasis here, with major updates on our two biggest apps, Airfoil and Audio Hijack, as well as a limited-time 20% off coupon.

Airfoil 5.5: Now With Chromecast Support

At the end of last month, we unveiled Airfoil 5.5, which adds support for Chromecast! Google’s inexpensive Chromecast devices make it cheap and easy to spread wireless audio all around your house. Airfoil now supports sending audio via the AirPlay, Bluetooth, and Cast protocols, as well as any combination of the three.

You can stream audio to thousands of supported devices to get things rocking. Airfoil will stream audio to whatever devices you choose, and you’ll hear your audio all in sync.

Get full details in the Airfoil for Mac 5.5 blog post or download the Airfoil trial immediately from our site.

Quick Airfoil Facts

  • Airfoil now supports sending to Google Chromecast hardware, and other Google Cast devices, in addition to streaming to AirPlay and Bluetooth devices.
  • Send to any mix of AirPlay, Bluetooth, and Chromecast devices, all in sync.
  • Airfoil 5.5 runs on MacOS 10.9 and higher, and it’s a free update for all owners of Airfoil 5 (your license key will start with BLUE-).
  • If you own Airfoil 4 or earlier, you’re still eligible to upgrade to version 5 for just $15. For new customers, a license is just $29 in our store.

Major Improvements in Audio Hijack 3.3

We also recently shipped Audio Hijack 3.3, another in a steady line of improvements to the award-winning Audio Hijack 3. We hope you already know Audio Hijack, but if not, it’s our tool for recording any audio on your Mac. Whether you’re starting a podcast or just want to save a streamed radio performance, Audio Hijack is a great addition to your toolkit.

The biggest change in Audio Hijack 3.3 is one we hope folks won’t even notice: simpler and safer recording for the AAC and Apple Lossless formats. We’ve improved things so that you’ll never lose audio when recording, even if your system crashes. In addition, we drastically reduced playback latency across the board (a must for podcasters), and added support for recording from Slack’s new Calls feature. Of course, there are many smaller improvements too, and we encourage all users to get the latest version now.

  • We also published a post featuring 19 tips on Audio Hijack 3.
  • Audio Hijack 3.3 runs on MacOS 10.9 and higher, and it’s a free update for all owners of Audio Hijack 3 (your license key will start with FNLY-).
  • If you own any older version of Audio Hijack (or Audio Hijack Pro), you’re still eligible to upgrade to Audio Hijack 3 for just $25. For new customers, a license for Audio Hijack is just $49 in our store.

Updates to Audio Hijack’s Companion eBook

Audio expert Kirk McElhearn literally wrote the book on Audio Hijack. Last year, we worked with Kirk and the folks at TidBITS Publishing to create Take Control of Audio Hijack, a helpful companion to our beloved audio recording tool. The book was updated alongside the release of Audio Hijack 3.3, and it contains up-to-date information on the latest version.

If you haven’t checked out the eBook before, there’s no time like the present! You can get more info on our site, and grab a free sample to read.

When you're ready, you can purchase the book through our store.
